Cristina Gómez Baggethun

Although she studied Maths and Philosophy, she has always been related to the Norwegian literature because of her mother, and carried out her first translation project from this language when she was 17. It was the translation of an anthology of popular Norwegian stories. From that moment on, she has worked as a translator from Norwegian mainly, but also from English and German.

From Norwegian, she has translated essays and children’s literature, and is specialised in fiction for adults by classic authors such as the Nobel Prize awarded Sigrid Undset, and contemporary ones such as Per Petterson, Roy Jacobsen, Ingvar Ambjørnsen, Herbjørg Wassmo, and Omas Espedal, among others. She collaborates with publishing houses like Nordica, Lengua de Trapo, Siruela, Mondadori-Random House, Anagrama…

In the last years, she has also been dedicated to the translation of theatre plays. She participates in the international project Ibsen in translation, financed by the Norwegian Foreign Affairs Ministry and coordinated by the University of Oslo. This project aims to produce new translations of Ibsen plays into eight different languages, simultaneously. Gómez Baggethun is responsible for the translations into Spanish: Casa de muñecas, Un enemigo del pueblo and Solness, el constructor, have been published so far both in Spain and in Cuba.
